More “OMG you’re so small!” comments, including from my own doctor, caused me to google image search “5 months pregnant” and most of the results looked like this. I guess I am tiny!

So being the 4th of July weekend, I saw/met lots of people at various events and everyone’s reaction was always the same: “You are so tiny!” Which is funny because I feel huge! I guess it’s because even though my stomach is growing outward by the day, the rest of me is staying the same size. And I’m happy for that. Even before I ever imagined being pregnant I’d always say, “I hope I’m one of those really cute pregnant women who stays tiny and just has a big belly.” Looks like I’m getting my wish. And I must admit that it does make me feel good to here comments like, “I wish I looked like that when I was pregnant!”

So my feet definitely can’t take standing for 6 hours straight at work anymore :(

The question most people seem to ask me is if I’ve had any weird cravings yet. Not really. I wonder when that starts? Or if it ever will?

Saw a bunch of Esky girls at Amy’s art show. They all agree that a little boy is just what all of us Borden (or should I say Pierson?) girls need. And every one of them wanted to know how “pumped Jan and Muggs are.” Hahaha.

Fetuses have sleep and wake cycles, and you may find that these get more predictable as the months progress. But they may not coincide with yours: Babies in the womb are typically active in the late evening, just when Mom is trying to get to sleep.
— The weekly pregnancy update news letter I get from ivillage. So that explains it. I still like the Stewart/Colbert explanation better.

The other day at work I had bad cramps in my lower abdomen, and when I got home, I swear my stomach was bigger than it was when I left for work that morning. Even Josh noticed it. It’s so weird how you can notice the difference in just a day!

Gross

ridiculousroo:

This morning as I was leaving class and on my way to work, I all of a sudden got sick. And I realized as I was pulling into the parking lot for work that I was in fact going to throw up and there was nothing I could do to stop it. So I reached for a Burger King bag that was on the floor and proceeded to violently puke into the bag while I was still driving. I managed to pull into a parking spot and continued puking for a considerable amount of time. As soon as I was done and thought “Ok. I feel better now. I can go to work,” the bottom of the bag broke open, spilling the vomit all over myself, my car seat and the car floor. So I had to embarrassingly call work from my car and tell them that I was going to be late because I puked all over myself and had to go home and change/clean out my car.

Parenting skills

I feel somewhat guilty about the fact that I haven’t concerned myself with reading up on how to take care of a baby/parenting. Every time I think about it though, I think, “Oh I have plenty of time to start worrying about that later!” Procrastination and I go hand in hand, apparently in all aspects of my life. You’re talking about the girl who starts 10 page papers the morning they are due. But it works for me. Procrastination has never failed me. So I can just imagine myself saying, “Oh shit! My water broke! Quick! Someone hand me a book on how to raise this thing before it pops out!”

So as I mentioned, I feel “little guy” moving around the most around the same time every night. My mother’s hypothesis is that just like babies who like to be rocked, my duder likes the motion of when I’m moving around, so when I settle down for the night, that’s when he starts making a ruckas. However, I’ve discovered a new correlation and I like to believe it’s this:

My little guy already likes Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

Nearly every night, Josh and I end our nights by watching The Daily Show and The Colbert Report and every night that’s when he starts moving around. Further proof? I started reading “I Am America (And So Can You)” this afternoon and the whole time I was reading he was moving around. He’s a little Dem in the making :)

He’s a kicker!

So my little guy is very active! I can feel him moving and kicking around all of the time. He’s already kicking so hard that you can see my stomach move. I love putting my hands on my stomach and feeling it. I make Josh do it sometimes but I don’t think he finds it as thrilling. Haha. I like to belive that he does it to get “attention” and to remind me that he’s there, so whenever he does it I talk to him. I think we are on opposite sleep schedules though because he seems to become the most active around 11:00 at night, like clockwork, whenever I’m about to go to bed!

I bought some more shorts today with elastic waistbands to fit my growing belly :) And I still say it’s growing every day. I definitely have a good “baby bump” going.

As I’m heading into my 19th week of pregnancy, I realized how fast this is all going by and thought to myself that maybe I should be keeping a journal of this whole experience. But I’ve never been good at keeping journals or diaries. However, I’m GREAT at blogging. So I’ve decided to start a tumblr dedicated to this journey. Enjoy.
